Singer and musical actress Ock Joo Hyun recently expressed her support for NewJeans (“Jeanz”).
On the December 17 broadcast of SBS PowerFM’s ‘Wendy’s Youngstreet,’ Ock Joo Hyun and Yoon Sa Bong appeared as guests to promote the musical ‘Mata Hari.’
During the broadcast, Ock Joo Hyun selected NewJeans’ song “Ditto” as her song recommendation. Explaining her choice, she said, “Since I used to be a fairy (a reference to her past as a member of legendary first generation girl group Fin.K.L), I tend to keep up with news about my girl group juniors more often. NewJeans has been going through some difficult things recently, and I really wanted to support them. Seeing what they’re going through lately, I’ve been rooting for them a lot in my heart.”
She continued, “I don’t have any direct contact with the members, but as a senior, there’s something I’d like to tell them. Rather than nothing happening at all, going through challenges will make you even more incredible people. You’ll have deeper emotions and become artists who can create even better music. That’s why I wanted to show my support.”
Ock Joo Hyun also shared her admiration for NewJeans’ artistry, saying, “I’ve watched a lot of their performances and listened to their music, and I really like it.”
Korean netizens are moved by Ock Joo Hyun’s public support of NewJeans and commented, “Even top-tier 1st-generation celebrities are showing support for NewJeans. Fighting, NewJeans!” “That’s right. Meanwhile, NewJeans recently declared the termination of their exclusive contract with HYBE sub-label ADOR and have entered into a legal dispute with the agency.
