South Korean girl group NJZ (NewJeans) unilaterally decided to terminate their exclusive contract with their agency ADOR in November 2024. Following their decision, the HYBE subsidiary filed an injunction in December last year, which the Seoul Central District Court granted recently. After the court’s decision, NJZ announced a temporary hiatus.
Now, in a new turn of events, South Korean media reports stated that the parents of one of the underaged members, either Haerin or Hyein, disagreed with the parents of the other members over their decision to terminate the contract with ADOR. While a specific name was not mentioned, people on the internet were quick to speculate that the member must be Haerin. After the report by Chosun Biz went viral, the parents of all the NJZ members shared a statement together on social media.
As quoted by Koreaboo, the statement began with the parents saying, “The claims reported by some media outlets suggesting a ‘rift among the members’ parents’ are completely false.” They mentioned that all five members–Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein, have firmly decided never to return to HYBE.
“From the beginning, we agreed that no legal action would be taken unless all five members were in full agreement. The members deeply trust one another and remain united. Even now, the members are maintaining the same position, and we, their parents, continue to fully respect and support our children’s wishes,” they added.
NJZ’s parents revealed that all the members regularly meet and continue to maintain their strong friendship. Meanwhile, they have also taken this as an opportunity to connect and know each other better. Sharing that they were disappointed to see such baseless rumours, the parents mentioned, “At times, it even feels as though someone is deliberately trying to sow division. For this reason, we initially thought it was not worth responding. However, now that the names of specific members are being brought up, we feel compelled to address it.”
In their statement, they further clarified that the rumours regarding Haerin are “completely false,” adding, “Haerin and her parents are fully aligned in their stance. Any speculation about their family affairs is also baseless.” They reiterated in their statement that “all families are supporting and respecting their children’s wishes,” and further asked people to “ refrain from making or spreading reckless speculation about personal information.”
The parents of NJZ ended their statement by emphasising that they cannot send their children to “a company that exploits a member’s family affairs for media manipulation when the trust should be the foundation of any relationship. Neither the new management of ADOR nor HYBE has ever shown us any reason to trust them—and that remains true to this day.”
