They took responsibility.
Singer-songwriter Olivia Marsh, the older sister of NJZ (NewJeans) member Danielle, has apologized and admitted to plagiarism.

On February 24, her agency Mplify released a statement on its position on the similarity between “Backseat,” one of the double title tracks on her debut album, and “Onion Boy” by Isaac Dunbar.
“After comparing the two songs directly, we agree that Dunbar’s claims are true. We have reached an amicable agreement with Isaac Dunbar and are working on the necessary tasks, including negotiating the composition share and registering credits to the original author.
This reflects our shared commitment to creativity and fair artistic practices. We will continue to work with transparency and respect for all creators.
With this, we will closely review our internal systems to ensure that this does not happen again. Once again, we bow our heads to Isaac Dunbar and sincerely apologize to the fans disappointed by this incident.”

Korean netizens felt that this was the agency’s fault and not the artist.

“There’s a lot of noise with the start of her career.” “I think this is a problem with the agency for not doing their work properly.” “The agency messed up but they resolved matters amicably. What’s with all these people criticizing her?”
Previously, Isaac Dunbar claimed through social media that his song was similar to Marsh’s “Backseat,” stating that his self-composed song from 2019 was stolen.
