NewJeans are set to make a comeback this 2025 –– but not exactly in the way that you’d expect.
The beloved musical group is expected to be the latest K-pop act to be translated into the Funko POP! format, with Minji, Danielle, Hannie, Haerin, and Hyein given new life as collectible figurines. Each of the upcoming NewJeans Funko POPs will commemorate their distinct wardrobe from the ‘New Jeans’ music video, while also imitating their ‘ending fairy poses’ for their Music Bank performance of the track. Additionally, the five figurines will fall under the POP! Rocks collection that also commemorates several musical icons –– including artists like Michael Jackson, Prince, Ed Sheeran, Britney Spears, and even that of their fellow K-pop peers BTS and BLACKPINK.
While the world still primarily knows the five-piece K-pop act as NewJeans, the group recently announced the termination of their contract with their label ADOR (which the latter immediately contested to) –– which served as the latest major update in the longstanding legal battle involving NewJeans, ADOR, HYBE, and ADOR’s former CEO Min Hee Jin. Across social media, the members of the group have subtly teased their rebranding to “Jeanz”, even debuting a new social media account as a group.
On the musical front, NewJeans had dropped two single albums last 2024, including their Korean comeback, How Sweet, and their official Japanese debut, Supernatural. With the latter standing out as one of Billboard Philippines‘ fifty best tracks of the year, it was described as “signature NewJeans in that it’s unconventional, immensely interesting, and absolutely irresistible” with credit to its “smooth and delectable arrangement that brings together city pop, funk, and new swing jack.”
The NewJeans Funko POP! Figurines are scheduled to be released within the month of January 2025, with a standard retail price of $12 (around Php 650). Each figure measures 3.75 inches in height, and are housed in a four-panel window packaging that’s perfect for display purposes.
