Seoul, South Korea – Girl group NewJeans have officially rebranded as ‘NJZ’, announcing their decision to move forward under the new name while embroiled in a legal dispute with their agency, ADOR.
The five members—Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein—revealed their new identity on February 7, 2025, pronouncing NJZ with each letter individually. Their first official appearance as NJZ is set for ComplexCon in Hong Kong on March 23, where they will debut a brand-new song.
In response, ADOR issued a statement expressing regret over what it described as a “unilateral decision” by the members before any legal ruling had been made regarding their exclusive contracts. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the NewJeans brand and stated that it remains open to discussions with the group and their legal representatives.
Meanwhile, member Hanni has sparked speculation after reportedly refusing ADOR’s offer to extend her visa in South Korea. As an Australian-Vietnamese citizen, Hanni previously held an E-6 visa for entertainment activities, which expired earlier this month. According to reports by South Korean media outlet TV Daily, ADOR had prepared the necessary documents for her visa extension, but she allegedly declined to sign them—likely due to tensions between the group and the agency.
ADOR declined to comment on Hanni’s visa status, stating, “We cannot confirm this information.” If unresolved, her inability to work in South Korea may lead NJZ to focus on overseas promotions.
The legal battle between NJZ and ADOR continues, with the agency having filed a lawsuit against the group in January 2025, contesting their contract termination. The members had previously announced their decision to leave ADOR during a press conference in November 2024, citing contractual disputes.
As the situation remains uncertain, industry insiders speculate that Hanni could face further legal complications if she attempts to sign with a new agency while her contract with ADOR remains contested.
