Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein are all set to start a fresh chapter in their careers. Months after the dynamic quintet announced their departure from the label ADOR, they have now officially revealed their new name. Following their departure from the HYBE subsidiary, the five girls completed their pre-scheduled group activities without leaning on their previous moniker. The decision to rebrand was fuelled by online conversations, with fans and industry insiders highlighting potential licensing issues if they continued to use ‘NewJeans’ after leaving ADOR.
Previously known as NewJeans, the five-membered girl group will now be called NJZ. On February 6, the group announced their new name on their recently created Instagram account. The post not only revealed their official name after departure from ADOR but also gave a peek into their new looks. The pictures were shot by Complex Magazine, who wrote in the caption, “Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein’s new group name: NJZ. Get ready for an exciting journey with NJZ in 2025! Stay tuned!”
Immediately after the announcement, fans reacted to the new name, sharing their excitement about the new journey of the quintet. Some have praised their new look, while others shared that they were looking forward to their new music after months of turmoil.
“NJZ FOREVER!!!!! GIRLIES ARE BACK! LET’S GO,” a comment read.
One fan said, “This is about to be one of the most epic times of K-pop history. Mark my words!”
Whereas another fan requested, “PLZZZ KEEP THE NOSTALGIC VIBE, LOVE U GIRLS.”
Someone else wrote, “No one can stop NJZ. This time, NJZ will reclaim everything that belongs to them, and we will always support you.”
According to a post shared by the aforementioned media outlet on X on February 7, NJZ is going to perform at the ComplexCon 2025 Hong Kong. The five-membered group is going to be the headliner at the event and will also unveil their new music.
For the uninformed, the quintet terminated its exclusive contract with ADOR on November 29 at midnight KST, following months of escalating tensions between its former CEO, Min Hee Jin and the parent company, HYBE. Just hours before their departure, they held an emergency press conference in Samseong-dong, Seoul, to address their concerns about the contract.
