NewJeans has now reportedly lost yet another brand ambassadorship; meanwhile, their legal battle is ongoing and the group itself is still on indefinite hiatus.
In July of 2024, NewJeans made headlines as they were appointed the ‘Honorary Ambassadors of Korean Tourism,’ in partnership with the South Korean government’s Culture Ministry and the Korea Tourism Organization. In this prestigious position, NewJeans’ purpose was to encourage more young people to visit Korea, and “showcase the various charms of Korea.” Even in the midst of the ongoing conflict with their company, NewJeans promised to take on the position “with a joyful heart.”
However, netizens now suspect that NewJeans’ tourism ambassadorship has been quietly replaced with another prominent idol. Recent photos showed the official airport ambassadorship posters of NewJeans being covered up with new posters, this time featuring IU.
Though IU’s designation as new tourism ambassador has not yet been announced, it may be officially revealed sometime this month.
