K-pop girl group NewJeans sent a formal legal notice to their agency Ador on November 13, 2024, giving a 14-day ultimatum to address multiple concerns or face contract termination.
The group’s five members—Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein—outlined several key demands:
Reinstatement of former CEO Min Hee-jin
Official apology regarding alleged bullying of member Hanni
Resolution of controversial internal HYBE reports
Removal of unauthorized content
Assessment of alleged “chart manipulation” losses
Preservation of NewJeans’ creative style
Ador acknowledged receipt of the notice and stated they are reviewing the requests. The dispute stems from a power struggle between HYBE Labels and former CEO Min Hee-jin that began in April 2024, leading to Min’s dismissal in August.
Legal experts note that contract termination could be complicated, with potential penalties exceeding 300 billion won ($213 million).
Despite the ongoing dispute, NewJeans will continue scheduled activities, including their upcoming performance at the 2024 Korea Grand Music Awards on Saturday.
