NewJeans‘ youngest member Hyein had fans on their feels on April 22 after posting a handwritten letter explaining why she missed a fan-organized birthday bash for her the day before. The café event, which fans reportedly spent four months prepping, was meant to be a special occasion. But when Hyein didn’t show, disappointment hit hard—so hard that a major fansite deactivated its account in protest.

Turns out, Hyein did pull up to the event—but a sudden stomachache stopped her from stepping inside. In her letter, she said she felt incredibly sorry for letting fans down, swearing that it wasn’t intentional. “I swear I’m not lying,” she wrote. The NewJeans member appeared to be clearly emotional and hoping to clear the air with all the Bunnies who had been working hard to celebrate her big day.
Currently on hiatus amid NewJeans’ legal feud with ADOR, Hyein also thanked everyone for their birthday letters and love. She admitted she’s worried some fans might feel ignored if they didn’t get a reply—but promised she reads everything and holds the support close to her heart. Meanwhile, NewJeans’ future is still uncertain, and their activities have been put on hold as they resolve their legal feud with HYBE’s ADOR.
