NewJeans Danielle recently found herself at the centre of an unexpected controversy after a casual singing moment from her live broadcast went viral. While the singer was simply enjoying music in her studio, some netizens took issue with her choice of song—My Universe by BTS and Coldplay. However, many others rushed to her defence, questioning the logic behind the backlash.
During a recent live broadcast from her studio, which she shares with her sister Olivia Marsh, Danielle was seen singing along to My Universe. A short clip of the moment quickly made rounds online, sparking mixed reactions.
Some netizens argued that her decision to sing a BTS song was inappropriate, given the ongoing legal dispute between HYBE and ADOR, NewJeans’ agency. A particular online post criticizing Danielle for this gained significant traction, amassing over 100,000 views.

Despite the criticism, many fans and neutral observers defended the Super Shy singer, calling out the backlash as unnecessary. They pointed out that Danielle’s actions had nothing to do with the corporate feud and that enjoying music should not be seen as a problem.
“She’s not in a fight with BTS. People need to relax.”
“Since when did singing become a crime? It’s a song she likes, that’s it.”
“This is just reaching. HYBE and ADOR’s legal issues shouldn’t be dumped on the artists.”
“Why are people acting like she insulted someone? It’s literally My Universe.”

Many fans also highlighted that both BTS and NewJeans are under HYBE’s umbrella, albeit through different labels and that music should not be turned into a battleground for corporate matters.
