New Jeans proved its hot local popularity by reaching the top of Japan’s Oricon annual rookie rankings.
According to the agency ADOR on the 10th, Newzins (Minji, Hani, Daniel, Harin, and Hyein) ranked second in the “Rookie Ranking” by artist in the “Oricon Annual Ranking 2024” announced on the same day. This is the highest ranking among foreign artists.
The “Rookie Ranking” is ranked by adding up the sales of singles, albums, streaming, and music DVDs. Oricon explained that Newzins generated sales of 2.09 billion yen during the aggregation period (December 11, 2023 to December 8, 2024).
Newzins made his official debut in Japan in June last year and performed brilliantly. Their Japanese debut single “Supernatural” topped the Oricon chart on the day of its release and was certified by the Japan Records Association as gold disc “Gold (more than 100,000 cumulative album shipments).” The album has sold more than 1.3 million copies so far (as of December on the circlet chart). As soon as the album and its title song of the same name were released, “Supernatural” topped major local music charts, and even though it was a Japanese single, it ranked at the top regardless of domestic and foreign music charts.
In addition, Newzins marked the shortest period among foreign artists (1 year and 11 months) to enter the Tokyo Dome in Japan. They sold out all tickets for the Tokyo Dome fan meeting “Bunnies Camp 2024 Tokyo Dome” held for two days from June 26-27 last year, attracting a total of 91,200 spectators.
Based on these achievements and popularity, Newzins shined for the 66th edition of Japan’s most prestigious music award ceremony! He won the Best Work Award for ‘Supernatural’ at the Japan Record Awards. In addition, they boasted their presence by exploring famous broadcast programs at the end of the year. On the last day of last year, he was the first K-pop girl group to perform on the stage of “Countdown Japan 24/25,” the largest indoor festival at the end of the year in Japan.
