Danielle of girl group NewJeans attended a global launch event for Swiss watch brand Omega in Kyoto, Japan, on June 18, and its been making headlines.
What drew attention was that Danielle was accompanied by staff from her agency, ADOR, according to various Korean media outlets. This appearance came just one day after the Seoul High Court’s Civil Division 25-2 dismissed the appeal filed by the five members of NewJeans. The appeal challenged a previous court ruling that granted ADOR an injunction to maintain its status as the group’s management agency and to prevent members from signing independent commercial deals.
Despite the ongoing legal dispute, it’s been reported that NewJeans has continued attending scheduled events such as advertising and brand activities with ADOR staff. The Omega event, in particular, had been planned well in advance, and Danielle reportedly carried out the entire schedule in the usual way, with ADOR staff by her side.
NewJeans first announced their intent to terminate their exclusive contracts with ADOR and parent company HYBE during an emergency press conference on November 28 last year. The group declared their plan to operate independently under a new name, NJZ. However, courts have consistently sided with ADOR, upholding the agency’s injunctions and effectively blocking the members from launching independent activities.
Many fans wonder what this could mean for the group’s future and whether this appearance with ADOR’s staff was a one-time thing or whether it’ll repeat. Many also wonder if this means some of the members might return to ADOR, other fans believe this only happened because of Danielle’s prior commitment to the brand and not an indication that anything else is happening.
