Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein have begun a fresh chapter in their career, reintroducing themselves as NJZ upon exiting their agency ADOR. Leaving behind their former iconic moniker, NewJeans, the quintet is stepping into a new era, with fans eagerly following their every move. Recently, a seemingly ordinary update on their newly created Instagram account truly captured their fans’ hearts.
On February 11, one of the five NJZ members uploaded a short yet heartwarming clip on Instagram Stories. The video featured a fan unknowingly walking ahead of the idol. What stood out in the clip was the fan’s backpack adorned with a Haerin keychain, swaying with every step. Behind them was the NJZ member, who captured the moment and later shared it, saying, “Hahaha, they didn’t know I was behind them at all! Lol,” as quoted by Koreaboo.
The NJZ member went on to confess that she wanted to tap the fan on the shoulder to say hello but could not muster the courage to do so. In a few follow-up comments, she added, “Knock knock! Imagining tapping on their shoulder… I think about it often…I want to do it, but when the moment comes, I just can’t!”
The video has caught attention on social media, with fans even suggesting that they would walk backwards to avoid missing such a golden opportunity to meet their favourite idol.
One of them said, “If I were that person, I’d cry when I see this f–k. They should have turned around.”
Another mentioned, “From now on, I’m walking while looking back!!! (If there’s a member in front of me, a true fan never gets lucky).”
“Turn around!!!!!!! Look back!!!!!!!!!!!” a comment read, whereas another stated, “If it were me, I would’ve cried.”
This playful incident comes just days after the quintet announced their new name, NJZ. On February 6, the five-membered group revealed their new name, logo and look on their new Instagram account. The decision to rebrand themselves as NJZ came after months of online discussions, where many suggested that they might face licensing issues if they continue to use NewJeans even after leaving ADOR.
It is worth noting that the HYBE subsidiary has still not accepted the termination of their exclusive contract, stating, “The exclusive contract between ADOR and NewJeans is legally valid, and the claim that it was terminated is one-sided.”
