[TV Report=Reporter Jo Eun-ji] The group New Jeans (Minzy, Hani, Daniel, Haerin, Hyein), which is in a legal dispute with their agency Adore, announced the cancellation of the release of their content.
On the 9th, New Jeans’ official account announced, “We would like to inform you that the ‘Light Jeans’ content, which was scheduled to be uploaded at 1 PM on January 10th, has been canceled due to internal and external circumstances. We ask for your generous understanding.”
The members of New Jeans have been claiming that their exclusive contracts with their agency, Adore, have been terminated since last November. The main reason was Adore’s breach of contract and failure to comply with corrective measures. They stated that since Adore was responsible, they had no obligation to file separate lawsuits or pay liquidated damages, and expressed their strong will to work with former CEO Min Hee-jin.
However, Adore did not accept this and filed a lawsuit to confirm the validity of the exclusive contract with the Seoul Central District Court last December. They consistently stated their position, saying, “The exclusive contract is valid until July 12, 2029.”
At the time, New Jeans had stated that they would “carry out the previously set schedule as scheduled,” so they went on stage to meet the public as guests at various year-end award ceremonies and concerts. However, after attending the ‘4th Golden Disc Awards’ held in Fukuoka, Japan on the 39th, the official schedule promised to Adore has entered the final stages. It has been reported that New Jeans currently only has some advertisement-related schedules left.
Meanwhile, New Jeans began to move independently even before the end of the official schedule. Instead of the New Jeans channel under Adore, where the announcement was made today, they opened a new channel called ‘Jeans Popuri’ to communicate with fans.
In addition, on the 24th of last month, New Jeans appeared on CBS’s ‘Kim Hyun Jung’s News Show’. At that time, when introducing the guests on the show, instead of the name New Jeans, they introduced the names of Minzy, Hani, Daniel, Haerin, and Hyein with modifiers such as ‘5 angels’ and ‘world-class girl group’. In response, Adore’s side stated, “The company was not aware of the appearance in advance,” showing that the differences in positions between the agency and New Jeans still exist.
Following the implicit end of the official schedule, the news of the cancellation of the official content release, which was revealed to be due to internal and external circumstances, has drawn attention to New Jeans’ future moves.
