NewJeans or “Jeanz,” who are currently in a dispute with the agency ADOR over their exclusive contract, has recently opened a new social media account to communicate with fans, prompting ADOR to release its first official statement on the matter.
On December 18, ADOR issued an official statement, saying, “NewJeans already has dedicated platforms for fan communication, including official social media accounts on Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and other channels. We hope that the NewJeans members will continue to communicate with fans through these official channels as they have done before.”
ADOR continued, “All accounts other than NewJeans’ official social media accounts, which were established by ADOR, were opened without prior consultation as required under the exclusive contract. In relation to these accounts and the posting of their content, there have been actual inquiries and complaints from advertisers and third parties. Separate entertainment activities conducted through such accounts could create legal issues, and we have conveyed our concerns to the artists and their legal representatives.”
Previously, on December 14, “Jeanz” opened a new social media account under the username “jeanzforfree” and began actively communicating with fans. The group assured fans that the account was legitimate, stating, “It’s really us,” and “It’s strange how awkward this feels, but we missed you all. We’ll meet here more often.” They have been sharing behind-the-scenes photos and videos, fostering active engagement with fans.
This move has drawn attention as it follows Jeanz’s declaration of contract termination with ADOR. On November 29, “Jeanz” announced the termination of their exclusive contract through a press conference, after which ADOR filed a lawsuit with the Seoul Central District Court to confirm the validity of the exclusive contract.
Since then, “Jeanz” has been demonstrating signs of independent activities. On December 7, during their guest appearance at Japanese singer YOASOBI’s concert in Korea, they did not introduce themselves using the team name “NewJeans.” Additionally, in the latest photoshoot for Vogue Korea, only the individual names of the members were listed instead of the group name, further signaling their independent stance.
