Girl group received Excellence Award at the 66th Japan Record Awards for the second consecutive year
Ador, the K-pop agency home to girl group NewJeans, released a statement expressing condolences for the victims of the recent plane crash in Korea and addressed the issue of the group’s participation at scheduled events in Japan.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the victims of the Jeju Air crash and their grieving families. Our thoughts are with those affected by this tragedy,” Ador posted on its social media Monday.
The agency added that NewJeans would proceed with their scheduled appearances at TBS’ 66th Japan Record Awards and “Countdown Japan 24/25,” both in Japan, explaining that the decision was made after careful consideration of the impact on the event organizers.
“We feel heavy-hearted continuing activities during this time and kindly ask for your understanding,” Ador added.
During the live performance at the 66th Japan Record Awards, NewJeans honored the victims by wearing black ribbons on their outfits. The group performed its Japanese debut single “Supernatural” and received the Excellence Award for the second consecutive year, following last year’s win for “Ditto.”

The members, embroiled in a legal dispute with Ador over their exclusive contracts, also paid tribute to the victims on their newly created Instagram account. They posted photos of themselves wearing black ribbons with a separate message that reads, “In sincere condolences.”
South Korean government declared a national mourning period from Sunday to Saturday in the wake of the plane crash at Muan International Airport in Muan, South Jeolla Province, which claimed 179 lives.
Several prominent artists, including Cho Yong-pil, Lee Seung-chul, Lee Seung-hwan and Kim Jang-hoon, have canceled or postponed their concerts and events to honor the victims and support the bereaved families.
