NewJeans have removed all references to their new name “NJZ” from their social media accounts amid an ongoing legal dispute with their agency, ADOR.
According to the Chosun Daily , the K-Pop girl group recently changed their Instagram handle from “njz_official” to “mhdhh_friends,” which represents the initials of the members: Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein.
All posts and the account’s profile photo were also removed, seemingly to be compliant with a court injunction issued by the Seoul Central District Court on March 21 that barred the group from independently engaging in entertainment activities as “NJZ” without ADOR’s consent until a ruling is made in the lawsuit.
A related account used by the members’ parents for official statements was also renamed to “mhdhh_pr.”
The group, whose hits include “ Hype Boy ,” “ OMG ,” and “ Super Shy ,” have been at odds with ADOR over alleged “contradictions, deliberate miscommunication, and manipulation regarding multiple areas,” during an emergency press conference held last November, per Soompi .
ADOR is an independent subsidiary of HYBE Corporation, home of K-Pop heavyweights BTS , Tomorrow X Together, Enhypen, Le Sserafim, and others.
In February, the group announced they changed their name to NJZ and would perform a headlining set at ComplexCon Hong Kong 2025 on March 23.
At the event, the group performed a series of covers and premiered a new track “Pit Stop” before announcing a hiatus to their activities.
“It is really hard for us to say this but this might be our last performance for a little while,” Hanni told the crowd in English. “Out of respect for the court’s decision, we’ve decided to pause all our activities for now. It wasn’t an easy decision but we believe this is something we need to do at this moment.”
“Honestly, we’ve known from the start that this journey wasn’t going to be easy—and even though we accept the court’s ruling and this whole process, we had to speak up to protect the values that we believe in and that was a choice that we don’t regret at all,” said Danni.
“We truly believe that standing up for our dignity, our rights, and everything we just deeply care about is something that we had to do and that belief will not change,” she added.
According to Soompi , the Seoul Central District Court’s Civil Agreement Division 50 held a private hearing on April 9 regarding the group’s appeal to the injunction. The court will announce the final decision at a later date.
