Dubai: Members of K-pop girl group NewJeans recently revealed that they are changing their name to NJZ amidst a legal dispute with HYBE record label ADOR.
This rebranding decision didn’t go down well with ADOR.
“While the legal proceedings concerning the exclusive contract between ADOR and the NewJeans members are ongoing, we deeply regret that the members have unilaterally made this choice,” ADOR shared in a statement to Vulture.
The name NJZ became Instagram official on February 7, with several posts prominently featuring it, including one with the caption: “Get ready for an exciting journey with NJZ in 2025! Stay tuned!” Band member Hanni addressed fans in the group’s first Instagram Live under the name NJZ, saying, “Get ready for a rollercoaster of a year with us. You’re gonna have to be at the edge of your seat. You don’t know what’s gonna happen, you don’t know where we’re gonna come out of, you don’t know what we’re gonna release.”
NJZ are slated to perform at the ComplexCon Hong Kong festival in March and will reportedly unveil new music on the last day of the festival. NJZ – Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein – released their debut EP New Jeans in 2022 followed by 2023’s Get Up, both of which spawned a string of successful genre-spanning hits.
