The group NewJeans has changed its name to “NJZ” (엔제이지), and ADOR has responded to the news!
On February 7, NJZ posted an image featuring all five members—Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein—along with the “NJZ” logo, officially confirming the name change on their SNS story.
ADOR released a statement saying, “We deeply regret that the members unilaterally made such a decision before a legal judgment regarding the validity of the exclusive contract between ADOR and NewJeans was made. ADOR will do its best to protect the brand value of NewJeans.”
They added, “We are always ready to meet with NewJeans members or their legal representatives to clear up any misunderstandings and discuss future activity plans.”
NJZ held a press conference in November last year, announcing their desire to terminate their exclusive contract with ADOR and pursue an independent path. During the press conference, Hyein stated, “We may not be able to use the name NewJeans for some time, which is beyond our control.” Since then, the members have refrained from using the name “NewJeans” and have been active under their individual names.
On January 23, NJZ announced, “We plan to hold a two-day public contest to choose a new temporary group name,” which ultimately led to the decision to go with NJZ.
Meanwhile, ADOR filed a lawsuit on December 3, 2024, with the Seoul Central District Court to confirm the validity of the exclusive contract with NewJeans. On January 13, 2025, ADOR additionally filed for an injunction to prohibit the group members from signing contracts with other agencies or advertisers. The hearing regarding this injunction is scheduled for March 7, 2025.
