On November 28, 2024, NewJeans held an emergency press conference in Seoul, asserting their intention to terminate their exclusive contract with ADOR and HYBE. However, ADOR immediately refuted the claim, stating that the exclusive contract remains valid and that NewJeans’ unilateral assertion does not constitute grounds for termination.
During the press conference, the members of NewJeans stated, “All reasons for the termination of our contract lie with HYBE and ADOR. We will continue our activities independently, with the exclusive contract terminated.”
In response, ADOR issued a formal statement expressing regret over the press conference, stating, “We are disappointed that the press conference was conducted without proper review and before receiving a reply to the letter of demand. ADOR, as a party to the exclusive contract, has not violated the agreement, and claiming that trust has been broken does not constitute valid grounds for termination.”
NewJeans had claimed that their contract would be terminated by midnight on November 29, but ADOR’s statement contradicted this, asserting, “The exclusive contract between ADOR and NewJeans remains valid. We ask that NewJeans continues to work with us as per the agreed schedule.” This contradicts the members’ statements, which had reassured advertisers that their commitments would be honored regardless of the termination.
Additionally, ADOR addressed NewJeans’ claims of failed communication attempts, stating, “We have made several requests to meet with the artists, but these efforts were unsuccessful. We hope that NewJeans will open up and meet us to have an honest discussion. ADOR remains committed to supporting NewJeans in their growth as global artists.”
HYBE stated, “We deeply regret that the press conference regarding the termination of the exclusive contract was held without proper consideration and prior to receiving a response to the letter of demand.”
As a party to the exclusive contract, ADOR has not violated the agreement, and claiming that trust has been broken does not serve as valid grounds for termination.
The exclusive contract between ADOR and NewJeans remains in effect. Therefore, we ask that NewJeans continue with the scheduled activities as agreed.
Despite multiple attempts to arrange meetings with the artists, no discussions have been held. We sincerely hope NewJeans will open their hearts and engage in an honest conversation.
