New Jeans’ “Ditto” was named one of the “2020s Best Songs” by the American music magazine Paste.
Paste recently released “The 100 Best Songs of the 2020s So Far” and ranked 23rd with “Ditto” from the single album “OMG” by Newzins (Minji, Hani, Daniel, Harin, and Hyein). “Ditto” is the only K-pop on the list, which features works by global pop stars such as Billie Eilish, SZA, Fiona Apple, and The 1975.
“Considering the current state of K-pop in the 2020s, no group has emerged as rapidly as Newzins, and “Ditto” is one of the best songs,” Paste introduced Newzins and “Ditto.” “Newzins boldly shed the colorful EDM and excessively sweet maximalism of K-pop at present, presenting a groovy and elegant future,” he said. “Ditto’ is a representative work that perfectly shows Newzins’ position in the genre they are pioneering and their explosive star quality.”
“Ditto,” released on December 19, 2022, is a song that features a warm melody and warm vocals from Newzins. With “Ditto,” Newzins entered the U.S. Billboard main song chart “Hot 100” and the U.K. official single “Top 100” six months after its debut. Melon, a major domestic music site, topped the annual chart in 2023 by recording a milestone of 99 consecutive days on the daily chart and 14 consecutive weeks on the weekly chart.
In “The 100 Greatest EPs of All Time” released by Paste last month, Newzins’ second EP “Get Up” was ranked 52nd.
“The album, which contains six songs in just 12 minutes, provides a sophisticated and subtle sound that melts the R&B and club atmosphere in a way that was previously not well utilized in K-pop,” Paste said.
“With the release of this album, Newzins has reached a new level once again,” he said, shedding light on the No. 1 record in the Billboard 200. Newzins topped the U.S. Billboard 200 in the shortest period after debuting among all K-pop groups, and put the album’s triple titles “Super Shy,” “ETA,” and “Cool With You” on the “Hot 100” all at once.
